Wendy Goffe is a partner with the law firm of Stoel Rives LLP, Seattle, Washington. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), a regular contributor to Forbes.com, and a member of the ACTEC Programs Committee. She is a former Adjunct Instructor at Seattle University Law School. She is currently a member of the YWCA Planned Giving Advisory Committee, The Nature Conservancy Planned Giving Committee, The Seattle Foundation Professional Advisory Council, and the Children’s Legacy Council of the Children’s Hospital Foundation. Lisa has owned and operated Healthsource NW since October 2004. Healthsource NW is an independent brokerage agency which focuses on personal lines of insurance such as health, life, dental, disability and long term care. Lisa specializes in navigating the complexities of health and Medicare for individuals, families and small business owners. She is passionate about educating and advising her clients to purchase the right insurance products to meet their budgetary and personal needs.

Over the past few years, Lisa has become an advocate of the insurance industry, specifically health insurance. She has taken the opportunity to testify before committees in Salem and meet with local and state representatives concerning issues of health care and health reform.

Biography

Mark has over 28 years of law enforcement experience, having worked for both the Oregon State Police and Washington State Patrol. Over 13 years of his career were spent in the WSP Investigative Services Bureau (ISB). His assignments have included Detective Sergeant assigned to Tax Evasion; Section Commander as a Lieutenant assigned to Narcotics, and as a Division Commander, first as the Captain over the Investigative Assistance Division and later the Special Operations Division.

Mark has an Associate’s Degree from Chemeketa Community College in Criminal Justice, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Oregon State University. He is a graduate of the International Association of Chief’s of Police “Leadership in Police Organizations” course. Mark is also a graduate of the DEA’s Drug Unit Commander Academy as well as the FBI’s National Academy, both at Quantico, Virginia.

Mark is honored to represent the Office of the Insurance Commissioner as the Director of the Special Investigations Unit. The unit investigates fraud perpetrated against insurance companies and pursues criminal charges against organized groups and individuals involved in various fraudulent schemes.

Biography

James K. Treadwell is a graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law and practices as chair of the Trusts and Estates Department of Karr Tuttle Campbell. Mr.Treadwell is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, currently serving on the college’s Fiduciary Income Tax and Technology in the Practice Committees, the latter of which he is a prior chair. He has served on the executive committee of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Section of the Washington State Bar Association and was the founding chair of the section’s Probate Law Task Force, a group responsible for significant legislative improvements to the Washington State Probate Code. he is currently actively involved with the Estate and Gift Tax Committee of the Washington State Bar Association’s Tax Section and is a long-time member of the Seattle Estate Planning Council. He is listed in the publication Best Lawyers of America.

Summary

Computer technology has evolved into a frontline component of estate planning.  The purpose of this presentation is to discuss select applications of computer technology in estate planning and to demonstrate their usefulness in plan design and client education.

The presentation will illustrate the application of the two programs that the presenter has found to be of particular value:  NumberCruncher and zCalc.  The presentation will demonstrate applications of these programs in connection with the presentation of appropriate narrative, Excel Spreadsheet results, and PowerPoint illustrations.

The specific illustrations are set forth in the attached Table of Contents and include an S Corp. Grantor Retained Annuity Trust (GRAT) analysis using NumberCruncher, a Private Annuity analysis using the zCalc Tool Box, a Qualified Personal Residence Trust (QPRT) analysis using Excel with zCalc formulas, and an asset protection oriented family capital management plan using Excel accompanied by a related PowerPoint presentation.
